Jacob, Community Fridge Coordinator, joined by volunteers to open the new Community Fridge building by cutting the ribbon.

A special event was held on 16th September to celebrate two new facilities at Swaffham Community Centre. The Community Centre, managed by Iceni Partnership, has expanded its popular Community Fridge service - which collects surplus food from local businesses and redistributes it to the community for free - into its own small building within the community centre site. This will give it greater capacity to take more donations and offer greater support, whilst also allowing the centre's foyer to be reclaimed as a warm, welcoming entrance to the building.

Meanwhile, the Bishop Room has been refurbished to be Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) friendly, with soft, soothing colours and furnishings, acoustic wall paneling to reduce echo, and adjustable mood lighting. With a large touchscreen monitor too, this will be a highly adaptable and inclusive space which can continue to be hired for training, meetings, and events. It has recently also become the venue for the Teenie's SEND Cafe, offering SEND children and their families a safe and informative space.

Members of the public, community leaders, businesses and local charities attended the event – including Deputy Mayor Cllr Jen Mander and Breckland Council Chairman Cllr Nigel Wilkin - which included ribbon cutting, speeches and refreshments. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase what the Community Centre, and Iceni Partnership as a charity, has to offer. The Iceni team thanked councils, charities and businesses who generously made donations and grants, or offered other forms of support to deliver both projects.
